 | Auburn men arrested after dynamite, drugs found in home |
Two Auburn men face felony charges after drugs and explosives were found last week in their home, the Placer County District Attorney's Office announced.
Sheriff's officers went to the men's residence in the Auburn Greens area Feb. 19 with a search warrant and discovered methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, 12 sticks of dynamite, two pounds of TNT and various other explosives, said Scott Owens, a senior deputy district attorney.
Arrested were Vasny Gerson Zavala-Vigil, 28, and Nery Pancan, whose age was not listed on a news release from the District Attorney's Office.

The following information was provided by the Placer County Sheriff's Department and the Roseville and Rocklin police departments from reports available for public review.
• 204 Harding Blvd., Roseville, arrests. Kindra Lynne Maxwell, 32, and Ruth Adrienne Carter, 31, were arrested between 11:28 p.m. Feb. 20 and 12:15 a.m. Feb. 21 on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy after police searched their room at the Heritage Inn and found fictitious checks, a methamphetamine pipe and Wal-Mart receipts. Wal-Mart staff members told police that two women fitting the suspects' descriptions had passed a check bearing the same name that was on the checks found in their room.
• 1000 block of Old Mill Circle, Roseville, arrest. Kenneth Charles Machen, 27, was arrested at 2:45 p.m. Feb. 20 on suspicion of possessing, manufacturing or selling dangerous weapons after police found a shuriken, or Japanese throwing star, at his residence.

 | Woman, 55, dies in fire in rural Placer |
Officials for CalFire in Placer County said they are continuing to investigate a fire that last week consumed a barn and killed a 55-year-old woman who lived in an adjacent trailer.
CalFire spokeswoman Gina Chamberlin said preliminary indications are that the Feb. 19 fire was accidental and started in the trailer. The barn and trailer were on Gold Hill Road near Wise Road in the Ophir area.
Witnesses to the 5:30 p.m. blaze reported they heard an explosion and rushed to the trailer to help the woman out, Chamberlin said.

 | Roseville police crack down on speeding |
Roseville police handed out 88 traffic citations, mostly for speeding, during a zero tolerance enforcement operation Tuesday in the Blue Oaks Boulevard and Fiddyment Road areas in the northwest part of the city, a department spokeswoman said.
The posted speed limit in those areas is 45 mph, she said, but most drivers issued tickets were clocked at between 58 and 60 mph, police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said.
Gunther said police timed one motorist at 76 mph and another at 71 mph.

 | Officer lauded for saving three trapped in burning car |
Roseville police credited one of their officers for possibly saving the lives of three people trapped in a vehicle that caught fire after it struck a curb, sailed through the air, crash-landed and rolled over three times.
Officer Sean Miner was parked at a gas station at 2:20 a.m. Saturday when he noticed a westbound Cadillac sedan on Pleasant Grove Boulevard hit a curb and launch through the air at the Washington Boulevard intersection, said police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther.
She said the officer grabbed a fire extinguisher from his vehicle and began spraying the flames. He was joined by Officer Andrew Bonner and two citizens who used fire extinguishers to help, Gunther said.

 | Robbery suspects arrested within minutes |
Three men suspected of taking a cash register during a robbery at a Rocklin market early today were arrested in a nearby community about 10 minutes after the crime was reported, authorities in Placer County reported.
Rocklin police received a call about the robbery at 2:53 a.m. from the Rocklin Mini Mart, which reported that three men had just left in a small dark-colored, four-door vehicle after first demanding money and then taking the cash register, according to a news release from the California Highway Patrol.
About 3 a.m., patrol units from the CHP and the Placer County Sheriff's Department stopped a car fitting the description in front of the Denny's restaurant in Newcastle, the news release stated.

 | Two men arrested for alleged catalytic converter theft |
Roseville police have arrested two men on suspicion of trying to steal a catalytic converter from a Toyota 4Runner.
The removal and theft of catalytic converters from Toyota sport utility vehicles has been a rampant crime in the Sacramento region as thieves try to sell them as scrap metal, authorities have said.
Roseville police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said her department received two calls from neighbors on Main Street near Atkinson Street shortly after 3 a.m. Friday. Each reported seeing two men walking or running in the area, she said.

 | Police plan speed enforcement sweep Tuesday |
Motorists in Roseville will need to buckle up seat belts and watch their speed Tuesday morning because city police plan a zero tolerance traffic enforcement operation.
The enforcement effort will be concentrated on Blue Oaks Boulevard, Fiddyment Road, Pleasant Grove Boulevard and other areas on the west side of Roseville, police spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said.
The operation's hours will be from about 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., she said.

The following information was provided by the Roseville and Rocklin police departments from reports available for public review.
• 1191 Galleria Blvd., Roseville, grand theft. A customer entered Sears at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 14, concealed more than $400 in merchandise in a baby stroller and left the store without paying.
• 2100 block of Ranch View Drive, Rocklin, theft. Three Moen faucets and a toilet seat were removed from a house without damaging the sinks or toilet. The theft occurred between 4 p.m. Feb. 12 and 7 a.m. Feb. 13. The loss was estimated at $394.

 | DUI suspect arrested after hitting bicyclist |
A Roseville man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after hitting a bicyclist on Atkinson Street on Tuesday morning.
Charles Martin Pollex, 49, was driving a 2007 Hyundai sedan when he allegedly collided with the bicyclist about 9 a.m. near Denio Loop, closing Atkinson Street for more than three hours.
The bicyclist, a Roseville resident in his 20s, was taken to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with serious injuries and is expected to survive, Police Public Information Officer Dee Dee Gunther said.
